Prussia pre-1808
In Response To: Re: Prussia: always ()

I checked in Kling, Infanterie-Regimenter.

There was a bayonet scabbard until 1808. However, on duty, the bayonet was always carried on the musket, it was said that this had been practice since the battle of Mollwitz (1741). It was fixed to the musket when the companies assembled, and removed when they returned into the quarters.

Kling adds that on the march (before 1808) the bayonets were carried in the scabbards. In 1805 it was ordered that on marches during the war, the regimental commander was free to decide whether the bayonets should be carried fixed or in the scabbards.
