I thank you again. After contacting two museums who ignored my e-mails, Hailsham Historical Society and East Sussex records office
who had no details at all I am glad I found this site.

Although PvCortlandt was at the end of his life, filling in the details of his time in Hailsham is important to me.

I have not seen the map you suggested before although I knew the barracks were on the common. I presume the soldiers were in tents but the large square on the site, would that be brick built?
