Bread - each man will require 1/2 lb of bread per day

Is this a half pound of bread? It won't do. The whole discussion misses the point of the daily requirement of calories, this would be different to peace and war or on the march.

I have to find the article where this was discussed and that obviously in some armies the allowance of food would not match the calories needed to avoid loosing strength, while working at peace time they weren't sufficient for campaign a highly mobile warfare..

More or less a lot of soldiers were condemned to forage in case they wouldn't starve. Unit commanders could watch their men starve or turn a blind eye on foraging.

Boneys idea was to assemble his armies in allied countries, which had to provide food for no costs for his locusts (army) - then establish field bakeries close to the starting point of the campaign, a classic is to see how he ordered to get this done for 1806 - but was enraged to see that his orders were not carried out as required - and then to take the magazines of the enemy when invading - as can be seen by the correspondences of the marshals. But all this did not suffice - soldiers had to forage and seemingly at least in the French army cultivated this necessity to become a tradition or bonus of warfare to them.

As long as the army was on the move in hostile territory and those territories weren't stripped - this system would work more or less, in case there was only a thinly populated land and poor - soldiers starved - see the Polish winter campaign of 1806 / 07 which brutally showed the inefficiency of calories supply of Boney's system of food logistics.
