the Schützen were armed with a rifled carbine, which had a rifled barrel, where the fields and grooves were not as deeply cut as for the usual Jäger rifles, also rifled carbines, called Scharfschützengewehr, had a round end at the end of the barrel so that a bayonet could be fixed, also they were loaded with a paper cartridge.
It is interesting to see that they would use such a fire arm, I wonder where they did it obtain from and what the new rifles were ? When was the Baker introduced in the British army??
