Veterinary Treatment of Horses

John Shipp's "Cases in Farriery: In Which the Diseases of Horses Are Treated on the Principles of the Veterinary School of Medicine" gives us some idea how illnesses, particularly of the foot, were treated in 'our era'.

Has anyone ever come across any information on the treatment of horses wounded on the battlefield?

Clearly, most badly wounded troop horses were left to die (or sometimes shot) but I assume there were attempts to keep mounts in work (particularly the more valuable chargers owned by the officers) if the injuries sustained were not too dire.
