I always felt Emperor Napoleon went far too easy on those who betrayed him. And it eventually led to his ruin along with everything else you mentioned. Personally as far as his ambition, it could be argued that without it he would have accomplished nothing, so I don't consider that to be a deciding factor in his downfall. I like your assessment.
