Re: British light company buglers
In Response To: British light company buglers ()

Orders were issued on 19th April 1793 for the raising of four light infantry companies for the 1st Regiment of Foot Guards and two light infantry companies for each of the other two regiments (TNA: WO 26/35 pp. 2-3. A plan to raise these companies and to augment all of the companies to 100 rank and file, to be paid for by the sale of commissions, was sent by Sir George Yonge to the commanders of the regiments on 15th April (TNA: WO 4/147 pp. 153-158)) . These companies were added to the establishment on 25th June, each having one captain, two lieutenants, four sergeants, four corporals, two drummers and 71 privates (TNA: WO 24/579 p. 20).

'The Star' newspaper for 8th June 1793 reported that the music of the new Light Companies for the Guards included bugle horns and that the younger musicians were practicing daily in the park - so,the term 'drummer' was indeed a generic one for company musicians, so include bugler as well .
