I wasn't aware that the Spanish used the Canaries as a military prison. The information I have seen is that some of the sailors were imprisoned in the prison hulks in Cadiz, from which some of them escaped. Others may have been on Cabrera in the Balearics, but if you could supply your sources that would be great.
