So, the first prisoners sailed in early 1809, it appears mostly sailors from Rosily's French ships (five ships of the line and a frigate) captured in Cadiz harbour. The Spanish commander, in charge of the ships carrying the prisoners, was Jose Quevedo y Cheva who had been promoted commodore for his services at Trafalgar.
