One may add to that list Michael Broers, Europe Under Napoleon, 1799-1815, Hodder Arnold, 1996; Stuart Woolf, Napoleon's Integration of Europe, Routledge, 1991; Napoleon and Europe, ed. Philip Dwyer, Longman, 2003; Napoleon and His Empire: Europe, 1804-1814, ed. Philip Dwyer and Alan Forrest, Palgrave Macmillan, 2007.

The two books edited by Dwyer contain an interesting and diverse collection of essays by a variety of distinguished Napoleonic scholars covering various aspects of the administration, impact and culture of Napoleonic hegemony in Europe. I highly recommend them. I have just bought Broers' book and have not yet had a chance to read it but it looks interesting.

Woolf's excellent study can now be read online at Questia (see link below). It begins by analysing the French model of, state-building, conquest and expansion, and a study of how Napoleon carried out his conquests, before moving on to an exploration of the manner in which the French organised, administered and exploited their new territories. It concludes with an analysis of how various peoples of the Empire responded to and were effected by French/Allied governance.

Chris
