Anthony,

You're welcome. I read the Broers article and was pleased to find the other Napoleonic articles in that edition as well - thanks for the tip. While the duration of the French Empire was brief, there are many interesting issues to explore concerning the manner in which it was administered and the impact it had on the diverse local populations. The tensions between and attempts to co-ordinate French, standardised and centralised forms of governance with local laws, customs and structures in various parts of the Empire is one of its more intriguing aspects. I trust you have found the same in your study of northern Spain. We have been fortunate in the English-language world in the last 20 years to have had so much fresh and insightful study and writing conducted on this area.

Regards,
Chris
