All of the earlier bracket carriages I've seen illustrated have the brackets splayed apart from front to rear, essentially following the line of the tapered gun-barrels. However, in Nelson's Aide-Memoir of 1849, all the British carriages have the brackets shown parallel to each other.
Was this design change begun during or post-Napoleonic era?
