So the memoires or souvenirs are the same, the introduciton is different, in the 1899 edition
After the retreat of Moscow he passed into the 2nd Grenadiers of the Guard (Old Guard) as chef de bataillon
the 1913 edition
after the retreat from Russia he is nominated major (lieutenant-colonel) commanding the 2nd regiment of the Tirailleurs of the Guard and served in the campaign in Saxony.
so Old or New Guard?
Also the 1913 edition starts already with the beginning of the Russian campaign in 23rd of June - compared with the 23rd of august of the eralier edition.
It is interesting to note - that despite he was only a battalion commander - in the waggon park - he had 3 waggons and servants!!!
