Thiers writes that Napoleon was informed about Moore's departure from Salamanca towards Valladolid by "deserters from general Dupont". Means these were men who had evaded Bailen ? Or having deserted earlier, joined the British army, and deserted back ?

Still I am not sure how much simple soldiers (surely these deserters had not become British officers) would know about the strategic decisions and plans of their commanders ?
