In Response To: Re: Trafalgar prisoners ? ()

Rob,

An article in the Journal of the Society for Army Historical Research (1950, sorry no detail on volume, title or author (I no longer have access to a search engine for journals) has this information - much of which you already have - together with an interesting reference to the Murray Papers that could prove useful for you in terms of chronology and itinerary. You may be able to establish the article if you can access, or know of someone who can access: https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/000600187

La Houssaye's report included the information that they had deserted from "Sotrico" on the 13th. As, according to the route contained in Murray Papers, Vol. 54, f. 63, and dated Salamanca, 9th December, the five detached companies of the 5/6oth were due at Ciudad Rodrigo on the 12th, "Sotrico" can safely be identified. " Balagny, Vol. Ill, pp. 382, 395. " ibid., Vol. Ill, pp. 420, 423, 433, 437.

But quite how Thiers can have established that Moore was en route towards Tordesillas / Valladolid based upon information provided by three deserters who left Salamanca on the 9th is beyond me :-)

Best wishes
A
