American Independence was never threatened, even by the most billigerent on the British side. There was some who wanted to punish the US for the stab in the back/safe guard Canada etc but it’s essential existence was never questioned.

At the end of the day America started the war and not one of its stated war aims was met and ended bankrupt. The whole second Independence propoganda sounds like it was done to salve some bruised egos and to attack domestic opponents, while for a domestic populace.
