Well, Peninsular war is also Guerra de Independencia in Spain.
That is also a strange concept, Spanish were invaded and a fake king was imposed, but the country was still considered a state, and not annexed into french Empire. So they did not lost their independency, they fought an invader.

For USA, perhaps its more a concept of "second leg" ? Invading Canada after winning the first leg at home ? :D
