It is an assumption that colpacks were worn other than by officers as there would appear to be no contemporary evidence. This is not to say that this did not occur as in the absence of formal regulations many varients in uniform distinctions are known but that firm evidence is not available for rank & file colpacks. As previously mentioned, the 'paper soldier' collections were used for a host of later illustrations (Buquoy for instance). Views differ on the authenticy of the original material as being contempory based on observation. I would very much like to be proved wrong on this.
