Colonel William Frederick Spry was a British Army who served in the Portuguese Army during the Peninsular War. He commanded a brigade in the 5th Division at Salamanca in 1812.
Most sources give has the spelling of his family name as Spry. Yet in his brigade's after-action-report dated 25 July 1812, he signs his name as Sprye.
Any thoughts on why? Could all the other sources be wrong?
Thanks!
Bob
