Re: KGL officer at Waterloo

Hi Allan,

I looked at my electronic copy of Schwertseger, but had forgotten that it was in Gareth Glover’s Waterloo sources as well. As you are probably aware all of the KGL Captains who were attached to Hanoverian battalions were promoted to Major, so served as Second in Commands of those battalions. I suspect that the commander of each Hanoverian Brigade skirmish screen was also KGL.

If you are particularly interested in 2nd Light KGL, I found it interesting that their Regimental Colonel was Major General Colin Halkett, who was commanding 6th British Brigade and their next senior officer was Lieutenant Colonel Martin (who had commanded a Hanoverian Brigade in 1813 in the North German campaign) and was now appointed as Chief of Staff to Major General Von Decken, who was commanding the four Brigades of the Hanoverian Reserve Corps, used to guard Lines of Communication. That is why Major Baring ended up in command of 2nd KGL Light at Waterloo.
