You shouldn't try and dictate what someone else 'has' to do. It isn't an incentive to participate. It is also rude.
An excellent starting point, which you undoubtedly won't agree with, it Appendix A of Cronin's biography of Napoleon. He covers the memoirs of Claire de Remusat, Bourrienne, Talleyrand, Barras, Marmong, Laure Permon (Duchesse de Abrantes), and Chaptal. Cronin also describes the ghost-writer for Bourrienne including the factual Bourrienne et ses erreurs by Comte Boulay de La Meurthe who headed a group to conduct the study.
