Pontefract and Wakefield, alluded to in the Masons notes on the various lodges, also had prisoners of war. In Wakefield they were kept in hulks on the River Calder during the 7yw and early Napoleonic period. In the Napoelonic period, those in Pontefract were set to as farm labourers. A descendant of one of these men, founded my re-enactment group. His ancestor was called Maillard (anglicised to Mellard), captured in Spain and became a Wesleyan Methodist Local Preacher in 1817.
