...on the 9th june 1805, when major Morland is named colonel, commandant en second, the regiment gets a new major to replace Morland : Nicolas Dahlmann, "chef d'escadrons aux chasseurs a cheval de la garde, 13 octobre 1802..., major du régiment, 9 juin 1805; colonel-major des chasseurs a cheval de la garde impériale a la place de Morland, 18 décembre 1805..., général de brigade, 30 décembre 1806"...

It was not by getting a fonction within the guard that one became general... and first of all, all the generals were part of the "état-major général de l'armée"; Morland was not, his service dates are, according to Quintin, as follows :

- sous-lieutenant 15 septembre 1791
- lieutenant 20 aout 1792
- capitaine 11 aout 1793
- chef d'escadrons (toujours au 11e rgt) 6 septembre 1801
- admis un an plus tard avec son grade aux chasseurs a cheval de la Garde des consuls, 13 oct. 1802
- major 31 janvier 1804
- colonel 9 juin 1805
