Junot was not a good or responsible commander. However, he was one of Napoleon's earliest comrades-in-arms and he stayed with Napoleon even in adversity, where others, such as Marmont, did not. Junot's wife was not a good match and here 'memoirs' are inaccurate and unreliable.
Napoleon had a habit of staying loyal to old friends, which was undoubtedly why Junot remained on active service.
