Robert Parker of the 76th

Can anyone supply any information about this officer?

He joined the 76th, presumably as an ensign, in 1808 or 1809, having previously been an attorney's clerk. Not clear whether or not he took part in the Coruña Campaign. In April 1809 he complained that 'he had been abused by “Genl. Acklin [Sir Wroth Palmer Acland] of the Guards” who had “threaten’d to put me with some other officers in a blanket and piss on us if we did not go out of the Town of Ipswich immediately.” Acland had said that “the 76th was the worst Regt. in the service and abused the field officers shamefully”, about which they had written to their commander, to little effect.’ (French & Rothery Man's Estate p 121 - also quoted in McGuigan & Burnham Wellington's Brigade Commanders p 3). The 76th took part in the Walcheren Expedition and according to French & Rothery's index Parker died in 1810, quite possibly from illness contracted there, but it would be interesting to confirm that or have any further information about his career.
