So it is possible that the 2nd and 10th companies were deployed as skirmishers to the 5th Division, albeit not armed with rifles (or not initially, at least); this would appear to contradict the popular view of the three detached companies as being all rifle-armed. However, this would not be so unusual, as it was more normal for German "rifle" units to be a mix of 1 rifle to 2 muskets, occasionally a 50:50 split; the 2nd KGL Light Bn was certainly armed that way during the Peninsula campaigns, and I believe even still had some muskets at Waterloo.
It might also be worth looking at the Brunswick Oels payrolls to see if there was any transfer of personnel to (and from) these two companies at the time of their detachment, so as to improve the quality of the men serving in them.
