Further to my last, I think the question of the numbering of the companies may be related to the reduction of the 1st Light Horse, which originally had 14 companies. Once that regiment was reduced to eight companies and men transferred to help form the 3e Regiment d'Eclaireurs de la Garde Imperial, they may have continued using their old company numbers. I don't have any evidence to support that, however all written records of the 3rd Eclaireurs and intertwined with the Light Horse and lead me to believe that is what may have occurred.
