I was not clear enough.
Dumas' novels are clearly fictional, and I don't use it as historical source.
But he wrote of (then) well-known events, and he documented himself a lot, the "San Felice" for example use many quotes from real documents to give consistency to the historical background.
And my french edition give the necessary corrections for the "gaps" with reality.
To someone who reproached him : "Mister, you abused History" he himself replied: "Yes, but I gave her beautiful chilren"
