Thiers was a historian of the old school who liked to tell a unified and dramatic story without offering alternative versions. He worked on the Bed of Procrustes principle (if it doesn't fit either stretch it or chop it off).

Going back to your earlier post, you mentioned

He seems to have forgotten that Macdonald's troops were mainly Italians!

The whole order is something of a display of competinging egos!
