The Army of Italy was composed of both French and Italian units, two-thirds of them being French. Eugene reported in 1808 that his Italian units were 'on par with his French regiments for police, discipline, administration, and training.'
MacDonald's command at Wagram consisted of two French infantry divisions, commanded by Broussier and Lamarque. Broussier commanded the 9th, 84th, and 92d Ligne and Lamarque commanded the 18th Legere, and the 13th, 23d, and 29th Ligne. Each division also had one foot artillery company and one sapper company.
I don't see where 'Macdonald's troops were mostly Italians.'
Perhaps you can supply more information?
Sincerely,
K
