French influence in Europe was accomplished more than just by language.
The French technical schools, for example (both civil and military), were not only the first in Europe as well as being excellent, but they were used as models by other nations when they formed and organized their own military technical schools. The British and Austrians, for example, modeled their artillery and engineer schools on those of the French. Further, French military terms were used in their French form by other nations. Lastly, French military treatises on engineering, artillery, and staff organization and functioning were translated by other nations and used by them.
