Indeed, teaching of the Classics at the English Public Schools and the Universities instilled a perspective that cheerfully looked back beyond the foundation of (inconveniently) Catholic Christianity to the pre-Christian roots of civilisation, a prototype annexed by the parvenu Christian God who was of course White, Anglo-Saxon and Protestant.
