Re: Flank protection by seniority?

As a footnote, in relation to the signficance of X Boxtel as Arthur Wesley's first battlefield encounter with the French - whether or not as 'England's greatest chief in his first brigade command'-

-it is a mildly pleasing fact that in the Boxtel fight the French vanguard brigade, commanded by Dutch renegade general Herman Willem Daendel, was spearheaded by a battalion led by his compatriot Lieutenant Colonel David Chassé. In 1815 Chassé would serve at Waterloo as a general of the Dutch Royal army and lead his division to bolster Welllington's centre at a critical moment in the attack of the Garde Impérial . Thus he was present at both 'Wellington's first and last battle,' - fighting first opposite and then as an allied commander under 'England's greatest chief.'
