I disagree. If Napoleon believed that Marmont deserved it, and he undoubtedly did, Napoleon would have no problem dressing him down. He didn't do that often in public or in person, but when he believed that the person richly deserved it, he would. And Napoleon had known Marmont since Toulon, and he was the only corps commander in 1805 that was not a marshal. And Marmont was browned off when he didn't make marshal with the initial group. Marmont had an easily bruised ego, and that would eventually lead him to treason, with Talleyrand's urging, in 1814.
