D–P is also in error when he writes about N being angry at Marmont for "allowing the Austrians to escape." Entirely misreads the situation. Marmont's actions actually tied down the Austrians. N's annoyance was connected to Marmont taking risks that put his corps in jeopardy (i.e., putting himself in a position to be overwhelmed; not that Marmont did this intentionally) and for poor rear area security.
