The organisation and operation was rather less ad-hoc than you would consider. You would need to look at the combined arms section of the 1812 Reglement. It was based upon lines of three battalions with half batteries on each wing with cavalry in reserve.

Remember that a Prussian Regiment was stronger than most British Brigades. It is rather difficult to explain in words. The flexibility of the design was modern in concept and an improvement upon that of the "French" Division System. The integral cavalry was often striped away and part of the advance guard of the Corps.
