Re: pennions?
In Response To: Re: pennions? ()

As a somewhat tenuous interlude, in one of Whinyates (RHA, rocket troop) letters to Siborne regarding his unit at Waterloo, he writes, "Should you entertain any intention of representing the costume of the troops the small flag attached to the rocket stick should not be introduced. It was added by the Captain as an ornament, and was discontinued, and not part of the real equipment". It has been suggested that this was part of an attempt to make the rocket troop resemble lancers, as suggested by Congreve in 'Details of the rocket system (1814)' p21, "Every part of this equipment (that of the rocket cavalry), except the sticks, is so completely concealed by the schabraque, that the rocket trooper has the appearance merely of a lancer.
