Similar "atrocities" towards prisoners is documented ad nauseum, ad infinitum in John Prebble's book Culloden. No wonder King's Mountain saw such ruthlessness twenty years later.
While the Napoleonic Wars were sixty years later, I doubt if the rank and file had any change in heart over the intervening years. Has anyone examined the subjugation of the Indian Penninsula by Clive et. al. with that of the Iberian Penninsula? War is hell.
