After looking through your post and the reminder that Davout HATED Bernadotte why do you feel that Napoleon did not let Davout "let loose" on Bernadotte? I know at the beginning of the campaign Davout begged Napoleon to let him teach his nemesis a lesson, but Napoleon refused. I do not know about you, but if I were Napoleon and one of my former marshals who I had put unearned glory and riches on had taken his adoptive nation and declared war on me, I would want to mop the floor with his face. If I personally could not do it, I would send the best marshal I had who also hated him with a passion to do the job for me. Had Davout met Bernadotte in 1813 I feel that he would have smashed B's army so completely that the Allies would be in a significant disadvantage. Why do you feel that N did not let D attack? Defense of the rear maybe?
