Re: Morals of the time, how should they be judged

Of course they were scared. You have a warlike nation that was all pretty much geared up for war under the command of a military genius. You or I would be too.

The Americans were attempting to trade and make money between 2 nations that were in a fight to the death. Don't be surprised if high handedness will happen. Besides it was Napoleon's Berlin decrees that started the whole thing and the British retaliated.

The Little Belt affair was arguably worse than the Leopard incident. While the states that were most in favor of peace rather than war were the maritime trading states, when by your logic should be the ones most affronted.

Also did not the Americans have a vote on who to declare war on :\ Hardly sounds like the actions of someone morally affronted does it.

Nor does the US feeding the British Army during the time they are at war with them sound much like moral indignation does it. More like a nation/govt feeling a bit greedy and arrogant.

The British were not funding the Indians. They wanted them as an ally in case of war and not as an enemy themselves but they were never actually funding them to make war. Also after Tippecanoe did not the Americans find more American sold arms than British ones.

The Indians were always going to fight, not because of British actions but of American actions.Stop blaming the British and take responsibility for your own nations actions.
The US were killing their peoples and stealing there lands that was more .Tecumseh was a brilliant visionary and recognized that the only way in the long run they could win was if the tribes were united. It's a shame he was stuck with Proctor a most useless general.

Btw in case you were unaware, Indians fought for the US in the war of 1812 too !
