My apologies regarding a math error above. The value of the Reichsthaler in this period varied from 3-4 francs, but generally hung around 3.7 or 3.8. So 9.1 million francs was more like 2.4 million Thaler, not the 3 million I offered above.

In any event, that's still a bit more than the 45,000 Thaler the Prussians demanded from Hannover.

And it's worth noting that the Prussians made post-war demands on some of the other German states for things they claimed were taken from Prussia by the French and given to other states. For example, property in Westphalia was often disputed by the Prussians, Hessians, Hannoverians, and Brunswickers after 1813. But these issues were resolved by courts and/or by decisions of the German Confederation. Those arbitrations stretched on into the 1840s in some cases. They were NOT resolved simply by seizing the property, as Napoleon had done.
