James,

The use of the MDs throughout the entire period is quite interesting. The story of the NG in 1815 is not at all straightforward, and Regnault is the best source I have found to date. I also did a study about 30 years ago of the employment of generals in 1815 using Six - a pretty massive effort. One thing that struck me was the use of some very senior and experienced people in what Napoleon viewed as critical positions that are all but ignored now. For example Belliard had responsibility for both the 3rd and 4th MD and Gazan the 16th.

Most people only look at the four days of the Waterloo campaign itself when looking into 1815, but it really is a very interest case study for so many activities, because they often had to commence from a standing start and there were only weeks or months to get the job done. Regards,

David
