I agree with all the points you make.
However, I would add just a couple of comments
1) In relation to the publication of memoirs (French, Imperial or British, Allied).
Yes, the date of publication (and sponsor, if any) has to be taken into account.
But, publication in, say, the 1850s, does not mean that journals or notes that inform the memoirs were written at the time of publication.
2) On a very small matter of clarification, the article does separate out Legros (Hougoumont) and Vieux (La Haie-Saint)
From Martinien we have, as you know:

(And the article has Legros, 3e bataillon, 1e compagnie)
