Going back to the Revolutionary armies for a moment, which is relevant, because the personnel were mostly the same, the allegations against Vandamme in 1799 were sidelined by the military authorities and it was only the efforts of the civil commissioners that led him to be charged. This case was dropped, along with several others, in the summer of 1799 after the prairial coup when Bernadotte became minister of war, as a result the allegations were never tested in court. Duhesme got off at the same time, and he was never tried for events in Barcelona.
