You are correct re Gley. It's the part above what you quoted from Gley that speaks to D's state of mind.
As far as I know only Nap refers to B's extraordinary requst during the Oct 14, 3 am meeting. Petre does however wonder whether this is the source of a general statement by Berthier; see the Petre reference in my initial post in this thread.
Titeux in discussing what a clear order to B would have been does add the curious phrase that B would command both I & III Corps as he had seniority (comme ancien). I don't recall seeing refer explicitly to Nap's statement.
Segur tells of a specific entreaty sent or received about 10 am. Charrier's footnote indicates that this wsa Romeuf.
