Forming a square from 7 companies in column is no more difficult than forming from 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 (or even more) and takes exactly the same time.

The first two companies form the front of the square, the next five form the sides and the last two the rear.

With the battalion formed "left in front" the normal order of the companies will be reversed (ie grenadier company at the rear).
