I have a note: 20th Feb 1809 General Order Horse Guards – “In consequence of the state of preparation for immediate service…..” queues were to be dispensed with & hair was “to be cut close to the head in the neatest & most uniform manner”.
Another note of mine says that powdering of hair was dispensed with in Feb 1801 but individual officers continued the practise much later & that it may have been more common again in 1804/5.
