French evacuation of Apulia to preserve peace with Kingdom of Two Sicily : 3rd of October 1805
Declaration of war by Kingdom of Sicily : October 1806
Trafalgar : 20th of October 1805
Anglo-Russian landing at Naples : 20th of November 1805. Prescience of the Emperor in countering it one month before can only compare to that of S.Smith
Strategic result of Anglo-Russian landing , thanks to the nullification of French reinforcement by sea afterTrafalgar : nothing.
French conquest of Kingdom of Naples, without any sea force : 8th of February to 20th of march 1806 (except Gaeta).
Start of calabrian revolt : massacre of Scigliano, 13th of April 1806
Arrival of you hero, Sidney Smith, at Parlermo : 21st of April 1806
From this chronology I would infer that order to ship units from Spain to Italy, by Napoleon, was a way to prepare invasion of Naples, not a consequence of Anglo-Russian invasion in being; and that it was of no strategical importance since its suspension after Trafalgar did not affect French swift invasion. Also, that although S.Smith was a very active naval officer, he was not the origin of calabrian revolt.
