On the same aspect of Napoleonic wars, Eugen Sokolov made great work in Russian archives, convincingly demonstrating that War of Third coalition was decided by Alexandre II, much before any subsidies was arranged with Great Britain, and that british financiary and material help during invasion of Russia arrived very lately, when Napoleon was in full retreat, already repelled by Russian weapons and underpaid soldiers.
Role of "English gold" is often referred to in British historiography of course, but also in France, to explain constant hostility of European powers and people to French Empire. Whereas other states insist much more on national reasons.
And few States hesitate to start a war due to insufficient money.
As a very old French song says :
