The King's German Legion was an integral part of the British Army and in 1812 in 1812 the officers of the King's German Legion were awarded permanent rank in the British Army for 'having so frequently distinguished themselves against the enemy.'
So, it seems that the British did commission foreign officers in the British army during the period.
